Change Happens, whether you like it or not

Updated: Aug 3

I'm starting to take this personally (not really), but this is now the second time that I've gotten "kicked out" of a rental home.

This first happened a few years ago when the owner decided to sell the home after a hurricane flooded the crawl space. And now, at a new rental, the home owners are planning to renovate and add on to the house before moving back in.

In both cases, I had some notice, but the result is the same - I'm left feeling like something is happening to me. I wasn't ready to leave the house yet. I knew I wouldn't be there forever, but it wasn't happening on my timeline.

Coaching myself through it

So what would a coaching session look like on this? There are many approaches to take, but one I might consider would be trying to move myself from feeling like the victim to being the creator.

A victim is at the effect of life's circumstances.

A creator takes responsibility and has agency over their life.

So, to evoke my inner creator, I would ask myself:

What is in your control?

What resources or support do you have?

Where are you getting ahead of yourself here? What is true now?

How might this be happening for you?

None of these questions, or any mindset shifts that will follow, change the situation itself.

However, it will change how I decide to show up to the situation.

And by showing up as a creator, my actions and the results that follow will be different.
